SUMMARY: Brings together the proceedings of the International Meeting - Poverty and the Environment : Alternatives Against Destruction, held in Belém,Pará, in june, 1994. The Meeting united representatives os sustainable development experiences in the Humid Tropics : from Latin America, África-Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya and Ásia - with projects from Indonesia and the Philippines. The information, reports, facts and testimony regarding problems being faced and the alternatives encountered are published here. They serve not only as an element of information, but also show that poverty and environmentaldestruction can be detained and overcome,generatingemployment, income and mechanisms for preserving the environment.
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Akten des Internationalen Kongresses Armut und Umwelt : Alternativen gegen die Zerstörung, der im juni 1994 in Belém/Pará stattfand. Bei diesem Treffen wurden Erfahrung nachhaltiger Entwicklung in den Feuchten Tropen vorgestellt, Erfahrungen aus Lateinamerika und insbesondere aus Amazonien, Erfahrugen aus afrikanischen Ländern wie Uganda und Kenia, sowie Erfahrugen aus Asien anhand der Beispiele Indonesien und den Philippinen. Die hier veröffentlichten Informationen, Berichte, Fakten, Zeugnisse, konkret erfahrene Pobleme und mögliche Alternativen sollen nicht nur als ein weiterer Beitrag zum Informatiosberg dienen, sondern es soll aufgezeigt werden, dass Armut und Umweltzerstörung aufgehalten und rückgängig gemacht, sowie Arbeitsplätze, Verdienstmöglichkeiten und Uweltschutzmechanismen geschaffen werden können.

RESUMO: Reúne os resultados do Projeto de Pesquisa executado pelo POEMA, no período de abril a julho de 1994, objetivando identificar e caracterizar a dinâmica sócio-econômica do pólo oleiro-cerâmico de Abaetetuba, no sentido de precisar a situação de crise da produção local, pelo desemprego e, mais particularmentepelo empobrecimento das organizações de base familiar de produção.
SUMMARY: Brings together the results of a Research Project undertaken by POEMA, from april to July of 1994, with the objective of identifying and characterizing the social - economic dynamics of the pottery and brick works of Abaetetuba, to obtain precise information about the crisis situation of local industries, unemployment and especially the impoverishment of the organizations which rely on family labour for production.
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Die Ergebnisse des von POEMA von april bis Juli 1994 durchgeführten Forschengsprojektes sind hier zusammengestellt, das die sozio-ökonomische Dynamik des Töpfer-und Keramikzentrums von Abaeteutba identinfizieren und beschreiben sollte. Die Krisensituation, in der sich die lokale Produktion befindet,wird im einzelnen erörtert. Die Ursachen liegen in der zunehmenden Arbeitslosigkeit und insbesondere im Rückgang der familiären Produktionsgenossenschafte.

RESUMO: Resultado de um estudo dos sistemas tradicionais comercialização em quatro comunidades de atuação do POEMA ( Urubuéua Fátima, em Abaetetuba; Camurituba-Beira, no Mojú; Praia Grande , em Ponta de Pedras e Novo Paraíso em São Geraldo do Araguaia) . Foram considerados neste estudo os aspectos sociológicos, ambientais e econômicos, traçando as alternativas de comercialização conjunta para estas comunidades de forma a viabilizá-las economicamente, minimizando a ação de intermediários.
SUMMARY: Results of a study on traditonal systems of commercialization in four communities which form part of POEMA`s sphere of action ( Urubuéua Fátima, in Abaetetuba; Camurituba-Beira, in Mojú; Praia Grande, in Ponta de Pedras and Novo Paraíso in São Geraldo do Araguaia). In the study, social, economic, and environmental aspects were considered, the paths of associative forms of commercialization for these communities were followed, to understand how they may become economically feasible, minimizing the action of intermediaries in the process.
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Untersuchungsergebnisse zu traditionellen Vermarktungssystemen in vier von POEMA betreuten Gemeinden ( Urubuéua-Fátima, im Bezirk Abaetetuba; Camurituba-Beira, im Bezirk Mojú; Praia Grande, im Berzirk Ponta de Pedras, und Novo Paraíso, im Bezirk São Geraldo do Araguaia). Die Unterssuchung berücksichtigt soziologische, ökologische und ökonomische Aspekte und zeigt kollektive Vermarktungsalternativen für diese Gemeinden auf, die wirtschaftlich auch deshalb interessant sind, weil sie den Zwischenhandel auf ein Minimum reduzieren.

RESUMO: A publicação relata a evolução dinâmica e participativa do modelo de sistemas agroflorestal "agricultura em andares" que foi idealizado baseado nas comunidades tradicionais indígenas e caboclas. Esse sistema em módulos combina espécies agrícolas e florestais, com objetivo de diminuir o processo de degradação do solo, muito comum na monocultura, gerar renda para pequenos produtores e para o auto consumo.
SUMMARY: Abstract. This book relates the dynamic and participatory evolution of the model agro forestry system "agriculture in layers" that was idealized and based upon the knowledge of indigenous and traditional "caboclo" communities. This modular system combines forest species and crops with the objective of reducing the process of soil degradation - very common with mono-crops - and generate income and goods for home consumption by small holder farmers.
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Die Publikation handelt von der gemeinsam erarbeiteten dynamischen Weiterentwicklung des modellhaften Agroforstsystems "Landwirtschaft in Etagenbauweise", das auf Erfahrungen und traditionellen Methoden der indianischen Urbevölkerung und späterer Mischkulturen, den sog. caboclos, beruht. Bei diesem Modulsystem werden sowohl landwirtschaftliche Nutzpflanzen als auch solche des Regenwaldes im Mischanbau kombiniert. Es soll damit erreicht werden, schon degradierte Anbauflächen qualitativ zu verbessern, eine häufige Folge von Monokulturen, und den Kleinbauern eine verbesserte Selbstversorgungsbasis und Verdienstmöglichkeiten zu schaffen.

E essa publicação deve ser útil a atores políticos em geral, à sociedade civil organizada e aos dirigentes municipais, para a discussão sobre o futuro de Igarapé.
